Anyone who has worked in media in Arunachal would vouch that after a point, nothing rattles us. We have faced it all. Intimidations, law suits, threats of law suits, physical and verbal abuses, which are often on a daily basis, are nothing new. We take it as professional hazards and get back to work. Sometimes the causes of these threats are so ridiculous, we often discuss it among the fraternity and have a laugh or two.
But there are times when it not only amuses but shock us too. The other day, a gentleman walked into this office. He pulled a chair and sat down very comfortably. Before I could ask what it was, he says, “I met you at the Police Station”.
Some two years, we had indeed visited the Itanagar Police Station when an uncle was killed in a road accident at Bank Tinali. Some citizens had come forward and helped us during those difficult times. I presumed he was one of them.
But his next sentence took us by surprise. “I am out on bail and you know what it means” he said.
Truly at a loss of word, I asked him if there was anything we could do. As he took out a copy of previous issue of the daily, his chilling response was “I could go back to jail again if you don’t stop publishing this”. He walked out as unceremoniously as he had walked in.
Here was a man flaunting his trips to jail as a badge of honour!
Apart from the fact that he was a coward, this despicable act made me wonder where we have come as a society. It’s a reflection on our society which has no respect whatsoever for the laid down rules and our deafening silence when things go wrong. As citizens, we don’t have the courage to stand up when things go wrong. Except for some villages across the state where traditional village councils still have a say which ensure that citizens not only follow the dictate but strictly abide by it for the common good, in urban areas individuals often call the shots. Who cares what happens to the society as long as you have the right connections, muscle power, political interference and money.
When we should be bending down and still have a say, we crawl. End of the story.
Look at Itanagar-
Apart from what happens within the demarcated roads, that look more like river banks, it is likely that you would end up in someone’s house, once you step off the road. That’s the beauty of this city. And they say widening of roads, beatification of the city and action against illegal encroachment is on. But how would one possible take action when the entire areas have been encroached upon and converted into one shapeless concrete jungle? Responsible ones are the high and mighty government officials, politicians and moneyed ones. Almost all the government quarters have been encroached upon. Even the spaces at ministerial bungalows are not spared. Forget about responsibility towards the state and Capital Region, going by the records, they are busy being responsible to their greed and upkeep of their families. That’s a reflection on our society. We have very conveniently kicked our tribal habit of self righteousness. Instead of just harping about our tribal identity, where justice was the name of the game, except in few cases, it’s about time we decide as a society what we really need.
Towards strengthening agricultural marketing infrastructure
PASIGHAT, July 7: An awareness program on government sponsored schemes being implemented for strengthening agricultural marketing infrastructure, grading and standardization was held on July 5 last in the DC's conference hall Pasighat.
The program was organized by NABCONS, NABARD Consultancy Services in collaboration with National Institute of Agricultural Marketing.
East Siang Deputy Commissioner Onit Panyang presided over the meeting. The DC said East Siang district is capable of producing bumper rice and is considered a ‘Rice Bowl of the state’. The district needs new technologies and infrastructural developments for pre and post harvest management and adequate financial assistances, Panyang added. He also appealed the NABARD authorities to provide more project/schemes in the district to enhance the rural economy and hoped that NABARD sponsored schemes would definitely facilitate marketing linkages outside the district or state for marketable surplus agricultural and allied commodities. The Dy. General Manager A.K. Pasrija NABARD highlighted the need of education and training to the farmers, entrepreneurs on agricultural marketing. He also urged the bank authorities to be more liberal while delivering their services to the people of the state. NABARD has been extending financial support in implementing various schemes in the state, he said.
The Dean, College of Horticulture, Pasighat Prof. Dr. V. K. Mishra appreciated the farmers for their excellent farming knowledge and skills. He stressed on organic farming and encouraged to promote grading standardization and quality certification system enhancing farmers’ income.
Dr. I.Y. Singh, an expert of marketing infrastructure and consultant to College of Horticulture, called for priority on better managerial skills and agricultural marketing infrastructure. He suggested for good grading, waxing and packaging the perishable items to be safe and attractive for sale easily.
Among others, the Dy. Director APMC Itanagar P. L. Lego, B. Apum DHO, O. Yomso DAO also spoke on the occasion. (DIPRO)
Mobility honorarium for the PR members
ITANAGAR, July 7: The crippled Panchayat Raj Institutions in Arunachal got the much needed boast today with release of mobility honorarium for them.
Lower Subansiri and Papum Pare district Chairpersons Likha Tongum and Nabam Aha received the first mobility honorarium amounting to Rs 47, 4000 and Rs 23, 11,800 respectively from Panchayati Raj Minister, Takar Marde today in Itanagar.
Terming the achievement as important and historic for the department as well as for the state, Marde said that the initiative taken by the state government would benefit the people at grass root levels.
While highlighting on the achievements and under progress schemes taken up by the department since its inception, Marde called upon the MLAs and PR leaders of the every district for coordination for better utilization of fund.
He also urged the concerned directors and other officials of various departments,
entrusted to implement various schemes like MG-
PR director, B. Gadi said that despite financial constraint, the government has taken up the step to boost the moral of PR leaders.
The cheque would be distributed to other districts who could not attend the function.

We know that R.K Mission Hospital is one & only Hospital in Arunachal Pradesh which
serves thousands of people not only from the state but also from outside. It is one
among the largest Hospital in North-
But it is very awful to see the dirty surrounding near the R.K Mission gate. The drain is blocked near the first and second gate of the R.K Mission Hospital since long time for which the waste water coming from the Market area flows over the road of the entrance gate of the Hospital. It gives very unpleasant smell while visiting the hospital; it really turns the people’s mind to feel lack of care towards the hospital by the authority. Throwing of garbage, wastes by the people and digging of telephone line & for other purposes by different departments make the drain completely blocked.
I am observing these for many years but no action has been taken by the Medical Authority and by the Market Welfare Committee.

Banderdewa need ATM facility
Dear Editor,
I would like to draw the attention of authority concern towards the problem being faced by govt. employees as well as civilian due to lack of ATM facility near Banderdewa. Every month we have to go Nirjuli, Naharlagun and Itanagar to withdraw our salaries. Especially in rainy season we have to face many problems at sinking area to reach ATM booth.
So, I would request authority concern to set up at least one ATM near Banderdewa Arunachal Pradesh Police Station.

APSCW calls for uniform directives
ITANAGAR, July 7: Chairperson, Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) Komoli Mosang, while attending a consultation meeting organized by National Commission for Women (NCW) requested the NCW to give uniform directives to the states to implement gender budgeting and consultations on the policies of the Government affecting the interests of women. She has also requested the NCW for a special Regional Meet of the SCWs of the North East.

CHANGLANG, July 7: 25 Assam Rifles, the Dah Division nabbed hardcore active terrorist of NSCN(K) on 05 July.
Acting on an intelligence tip off regarding presence of an NSCN(K) terrorist in general area Rangfarah Degree College, troops of the Battalion established a mobile check post and intercepted Rowro Taidong alias Waro Taidong, son of Mongkhok Taidong of Chokdok, Changlang. On interrogation the individual revealed that he is a hardcore active terrorist of banned NSCN(K) outfit and was actively involved in instigating villagers especially youth of Changlang District to join NSCN(K). His name finds mentions in the record books of Security Forces as well as Arunachal Pradesh State Police.
The apprehended terrorist have been handed over to Changlang Police for further action.

Mra begins Mt Denali expedition
ITANAGAR, July 7: Arunachalee Everester Tapi Mra began his Mt. Denali expedition on July 5 and, is expected to step into the highest peak of the North America in the midst of this month.
Eight climbers from various countries, including Belgium, Sweden, USA, Netherlands and India are taking part in this expedition, informed Taro Chatung, Chairman, Taro Opey Foundation (TOF), Ziro.
Mra made his final preparation of the expedition at Talkeetna, the last destination of Alaska state.
Talkeetna is one of the most attractive adventure tourist spots of the world where hundreds of tourists flock in daily basis for hiking and fun climbing. ‘Alaska range and nearby areas get 23 hours of functional daylights, where people work and sleep by counting time,’ Chatung quoted Mra as saying.
Lobsang Phuntsok, proprietor of Tawang Tour & Travel, New Delhi, who had accompanied Mra from New Delhi upto Alaska, returned to New Delhi few days back.
Meanwhile, TOF expressed gratitude to individuals, who extended all supports to Mra and also the SBI regional office at Itanagar for granting financial assistance for the expedition.

ITANAGAR, July7: Arunachal Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee President Yari Dulom, who was appointed as District Returning Officer for INC party organizational election had visited Anjaw district on June 30 last. She was accompanied by Tax and Excise Minister Kalikho Pul, Block Returning Officer Nowbo Dokam, APMCC state Media cell convenor Techi Dumsap and APMCC women NGO cell state convenor Mai Modi.

Tawang, July 7: The 43rd Governing Body Meeting of the District Rural Development Agency was held in the Officers' Club, Jang, today.
Alongside meeting of the District Level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee was also conducted.
The meetings discussed the physical and financial achievements of the central sponsored schemes under various implementing agencies.
In the District Level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee, the implementation and achievements of the PMGSY, Total Sanitation Campaign and Swajaldhara and other programmes under the Women and Child development by the CDPOs were reviewed.
The members present came out with a joint decision to conduct such meeting at least twice in a year.
The Chairperson and the DC collectively asked the implementing agencies to bring awareness among the beneficiaries.

NTPC Nominates its RTI Officer for RTI Awards
ITANAGAR, July 7: RTI Awards, which entered second year, is drawing encouraging response from various quarters. Several interesting nominations are being received in the Best Public Information Officer (PIO) Category from all across the country.
One of the latest is by NTPC, India’s largest power company, which has nominated
its RTI Officer for the Best PIO Award. The PIO, OP Khorwal, claims to have received
644 applications in 2009-
Similarly, last year, several Ministries such as Railway Ministry and Ministry of Culture had nominated their PIOs for the award.
Another interesting nomination is from Allahabad. Sarvesh Kumar Tiwari of Motilal Nehru National Institute claims to have satisfied all RTI applicants barring one. This officer received 80 RTI applications last year. He claims to have provided complete information to all applicants within prescribed time. He did not reject information to any applicant. Only one applicant was dissatisfied, who filed first appeal. No second appeal or complaint was filed against this officer in UP Information Commission.
Interestingly, the last year’s Best PIO Award winner, Dr. Lalit Narayan Mishra, also from UP. He was then working as an education officer in Etawah district of UP. He provided complete information to all applicants. Not a single appeal was filed against his decisions. And when RTI Awards secretariat wrote to all the applicants who had filed applications with Lalit, all of them expressed satisfaction with the response that they got from Lalit.
Like last year, this year too, all the applications received would undergo several rounds of scrutiny before making it the finalist list. For this, RTI applications would be filed in respective departments to verify the claims made by these officers. Letters would be written to all those who filed RTIs with these officers to check whether the citizens were satisfied or not. A team would also visit these officers to inspect the records maintained by these officers.
DC’s order
ITANAGAR: Deputy Commissioner, Capital Region Dr S B Deepak Kumar, in an effort to curb illegal earth cutting in the area, has said that permission has to be taken from the district administration for use of earth moving machineries including bulldozers and excavators. The permission has to be taken by the land owners from the DC.
Pipe line damaged
ITANAGAR: The main water supply line feeding Naharlagun and Nirjuli Township from Norch River has been damaged due to landslide and flash flood last night.

SEPPA: Deputy Commissioner East Kameng Tope Bam in an order yesterday prohibited carrying of firearms/lethal weapons while visiting Government and Semi Govt. offices/Bank and residential buildings of Officers/Officials in Seppa Township. Further the order says “carrying fire arms , local Dao and other lethal weapons by the visitors in the Office complex and residential quarters of official are likely to create sense of insecurity and fear psychosis among the general public, shop keepers and officers which may compel the Officers/Officials to work under duress”

Impeachment unconstitutional
ITANAGAR, July 7: Koloriang, Damin, Parsi Parlo and Sarli Students Union’s Langkung Rade said that his impeachment as president of the Union is unconstitutional. He said this after he was impeached by the union on July 4.
BRTF on job
ITANAGAR, July 7: Deputy Commissioner Anjaw C S Jeinow has appreciated the efforts of the BRTF for early restoration of road leading to Anjaw.
The Hayuliang – Chaglagam Meteliang BRTF road and Hayuliang – Goiliang PWD Road are yet to be restored but authorities are managing flow of stock through various means, reports DIPRO.
A total loss of Rs. 35.47 Cores have been estimated in the district during recent monsoon fury. 18 Ration sorties have been pressed in to service during the last two month to air drop foods to various administrative locations.
